Job Descriptions

How to create, edit and delete a Job Description, and why its detail decides the quality of every AI Rating and interview question.

What a Job Description does

In Jobdrive, a Job Description (JD) is the core input that powers the AI across your entire hiring process. Everything the AI does—ranking resumes, generating interview questions, and evaluating candidate responses—is based directly on the Job Description you provide.

When you create a Job Description in Jobdrive, it is saved to your account and can be reused across multiple Job Drives. The AI uses it in three core ways:

  1. Resume Screening: When you upload resumes to a Job Drive, Jobdrive AI reads every resume and compares each candidate against your Job Description. The closer a candidate skills, experience, and background match what you described, the higher their AI Rating will be: Excellent, Good, Average, or Poor.
  2. Interview Question Generation: Jobdrive generates 20 interview questions for each candidate using two inputs: your Job Description and that candidate own resume. Every interview is personalized and relevant to the role.
  3. Interview Evaluation: After a candidate completes their interview, the AI evaluates their answers against the Job Description to produce an AI Rating and written AI Feedback.

Job Description or Job Drive

Job Description and Job Drive are two distinct concepts in Jobdrive. Here is how they compare:

What it is The role details: skills, responsibilities, and requirements. A hiring campaign for one open role.
What it does Powers the AI, used for screening, interview questions, and evaluation. Holds all resumes and interviews for a specific hiring round.

Think of the Job Description as the master template and the Job Drive as the active hiring campaign that uses it.

Creating one

Before you can create a Job Drive and start screening candidates, you need at least one Job Description saved in Jobdrive:

  1. Go to Job Descriptions: Click Job Descriptions in the left sidebar to open the Job Descriptions list page.
  2. Click + Job Description: Click the + Job Description button in the top right corner to open the Add Job Description modal.
  3. Enter a Job Title: Type a clear, specific role title (e.g. Digital Marketing Manager or Node.js Developer). This title appears in the dropdown when creating a Job Drive.
  4. Save the Job Description: Click Save to store the Job Description, or click Save & Upload Resumes to save and immediately create a Job Drive.

You can also create a Job Description on the spot when creating a Job Drive. Inside the Create New Job Drive modal, open the Job Description dropdown and click Add Job Description at the bottom of the list.

Starting from a sample or uploading a document

When adding job description content in the Add Job Description form, you have three options:

  • Option A — Paste your own description: Paste or type your full role details into the text area. The form displays a live character count and a reminder that more details lead to better AI screening.
  • Option B — Use a sample description: Click the Try a sample description link next to the Job Description field. Jobdrive auto-generates a sample based on your Job Title. Edit the generated text as needed, or click Clear Sample to start over.
  • Option C — Upload a document: Use the Or Upload Document section at the bottom of the form to upload your job description file directly.

Editing one

You can update a Job Description title or content at any time:

  1. Go to Job Descriptions in the left sidebar.
  2. Find the Job Description and click the pencil icon in the Actions column.
  3. Make your changes in the Edit Job Description modal (update Job Title, text, or upload a new document).
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Important: Editing a Job Description does not retroactively alter the results of resumes already screened or interviews already evaluated. Only new uploads and new interviews will use the updated Job Description.

Deleting one

To delete a Job Description you no longer need:

  1. Go to Job Descriptions in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the red trash icon in the Actions column for that Job Description.
  3. A pop-up will warn: All associated job drives with this job description will also be deleted. Are you sure you want to delete this job description?
  4. Click OK to confirm deletion, or Cancel to go back.

Important: Deleting a Job Description permanently removes all linked Job Drives, along with all resumes and interview reports inside those drives. This action cannot be undone.

Which Job Drives use it

Before editing or deleting a Job Description, you can check which Job Drives rely on it:

On the Job Descriptions list page, click the View Drive button in the Drives column for any JD. This opens the Job Drives page filtered to display only the drives linked to that specific Job Description.

Writing one the AI can use well

The quality and detail of your Job Description directly determine how accurately the AI ranks candidates and generates interview questions:

  • Be specific about required skills: List exact tools, technologies, frameworks, and competencies needed for the role.
  • Include day-to-day responsibilities: Describe what the candidate will actually do in their role.
  • Add qualifications and requirements: Specify education, years of experience, or required certifications.
  • Provide thorough detail: More text gives the AI more context to compare resumes against.
  • Reuse JDs for recurring roles: You can reuse the same Job Description across multiple Job Drives for the same role without recreating it.

Put your first role in front of candidates.
